Tax Day Deadlines: Post Office Hours
The deadline for mailing 2010 federal tax returns is Thursday, April 15, The U.S. Postal Service® has extended hours on tax day at some locations to make things easier for you. Check Your Location hours
How Should I Mail My Tax Forms?
Use First-Class Mail® postage. The IRS recognizes the First-Class Mail letter postmark as proof that a return has been mailed on time. Use provided labels where possible, write clearly, and always include return information.
Be sure to use the proper postage—double-check your envelope if it feels like it might weigh more than one ounce, as tax returns bearing insufficient postage will be returned.
To avoid the rush at the Post Office™, mail your return in a local Collection Box® receptacle. But make sure that the posted pick-up time will occur before your deadline.

1. Check the last pickup time posted on neighborhood blue collection boxes before depositing returns as there will be no special or late collection of mail.
2.Mailers using an Automated Postal Center (APC), or self-service kiosk, should be aware that an APC does not provide “proof of mailing” as the date of the sale on the receipt does not necessarily represent the mailing date. These kiosks are available 24/7, and an April 15 postmark will be provided if the mail is deposited by the last pickup time posted.
3.Tax agencies will NOT pay postage due and the return or extension request will be considered delinquent, even if the mail piece has an April 15 postmark.
